As Americans gathered together over the July 4th holiday weekend, many of us took time to reflect on where America finds itself in its 250th year. What’s the true state of our constitutional republic? Can we recover from the Rule of Law challenges we’ve seen grow exponentially over recent years? What do we want America to be, and how do we get there?

AAROL has collected five of our favorite reflections on the 250th anniversary of America’s Declaration of Independence, speaking to the unique perspectives of our global Alliance.

Making the Most of Law Day of Action 2026

On May 1, AAROL joined lawyers, judges, and Rule of Law advocates across the country to celebrate National Law Day of Action. Across 65 cities and 25 states, more than 3,000 concerned citizens came together to reaffirm their oaths to the Constitution and the shared legal values that make our democracy strong.

To carry this momentum forward, we reflected on the Civic Oath administered by Superior Court Judge Herbert Dixon (Ret.) at the Law Day of Action Flagship Event on the steps of the United States Supreme Court. We want to hear what the Rule of Law means to you, your family, and your community, in practice.
Contributions will be securely collected, anonymized, and compiled with the voices of advocates from around the globe for a special Law Day episode of cylindr magazine’s Rule of Law Defenders podcast on May 1. We’re also collecting photos from your global service, for compilation into a video accompaniment that will be released on AAROL’s YouTube and other channels throughout May.
