On May 1, the Alliance for American Rule of Law (AAROL) joined lawyers, judges, and Rule of Law advocates across the country to celebrate National Law Day of Action. Across 65 cities and 25 states, more than 3,000 concerned citizens came together to reaffirm their oaths to the Constitution and the shared legal values that make our democracy strong.

From our nation’s capital to Durango, Colorado, AAROL joined with organizations representing all parts of the legal profession to speak with one voice. We want to offer our special thanks to the Nation of Laws Coalition and to Lawyers for Good Government (L4GG) for their tireless mobilization of the national Law Day of Action campaign, and to L4GG for their additional leadership of the Washington, DC flagship event.

At this event, on the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court, several AAROL members joined in a Civic Oath led by Superior Court Judge Herbert Dixon (Ret.). The oath he administered—open to lawyers and non-lawyers alike—reminded us of the duties we all share to defend our Constitution, legal values, and democratic institutions in big and small ways.

In order to make the most of Law Day of Action, we’ve used Judge Dixon’s Civic Oath to explore how Alliance Members can live out these commitments in our everyday lives. Read on for practical resources and action opportunities to carry the momentum of Law Day 2026 forward.
“I do solemnly affirm my devotion to the Constitution of the United States and to the dignity of all who live beneath its shelter…”
As Law Day of Action reminds us, the Constitution is not an abstract document. It serves to protect us all, and to ensure our democracy lives up to the promises envisioned by our Founders. But translating constitutional awareness into action can be a daunting task. Several organizations offer resources to help you do so:
- Constitutional Accountability Center: Find accessible issue briefs, case explainers, and analysis of a wide variety of current constitutional issues on the Center’s website.
- Street Law, Inc.: Street Law’s Resource Library is full of materials for understanding, teaching, and sharing constitutional principles and landmark rulings for all audiences, especially young people.
- American Constitution Society: Get up-to-date analysis, data, and shareable resources on key legal developments from the Society’s website, or active YouTube and Facebook pages.
“I will uphold its guarantees of liberty, equality, and justice, and I will faithfully fulfill these responsibilities to the best of my ability…”
We need elected leaders courageous enough to uphold their Rule of Law responsibilities even when doing so is difficult. This election season is a critical opportunity for all Americans to elect leaders who will support the Rule of Law, regardless of party affiliation.

The AAROL Rule of Law Voter’s Guide provides an accessible, 10-question framework for assessing if a candidate will stand up for the Rule of Law. Download and use this Guide today to get your candidates’ answers on the record, contribute to community discussions, or share on social media. You can find a shareable, digital copy of the Rule of Law Voter’s Guide here, or save this QR code on your phone.
You can also lend your legal expertise to election protection efforts in a variety of ways. Several organizations are currently recruiting pro bono volunteers on election-related efforts:
- The Carter Center’s nonpartisan Election Observer Recruitment focuses on Georgia, New Mexico, Nevada, Michigan, and Montana.
- The Task Force for American Democracy’s Volunteer Interest Form provides diverse legal volunteer opportunities nationwide.
- The Center for Election Innovation and Research’s Election Official Legal Defense Network needs lawyers and non-lawyers nationwide.
- The Alliance for Justice’s Voices in Action Initiative supports voter engagement nonprofits nationwide.
“I further solemnly affirm that I will honor the rule of law, seek fairness in my community, and strengthen the bonds of our shared democracy…”

During the DC Law Day of Action, President and Co-Founder of L4GG Traci Feit-Love asked lawyers to do three things in their professional lives: Pay Attention, Be Brave, and Commit to Action. In recognition of the significant power lawyers have in protecting our Constitutional system, L4GG maintains diverse pro bono legal programs ranging from immigration support, to civil rights, to environmental justice. Consider taking their 2026 Volunteer Survey to be matched with impactful pro bono opportunities across the United States. The Task Force for American Democracy also compiled a wide selection of post-Law Day steps all citizens can take to defend democracy, available here.
AAROL will continue to collect action opportunities that speak to the unique backgrounds of our Alliance Members and Supporters, sharing those opportunities through our email newsletter and social media accounts. To keep up-to-date on ways you can take action — big or small — we encourage you to subscribe via email, and follow us on Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube. We also encourage you to check out L4GG’s Impact Docket newsletter, which shares biweekly action items ranging from quick actions to long-term engagements.
“So that together, we may build and sustain a nation that fully reflects its highest ideals and extends its promise to all.”
It will take all of us to protect our constitutional system in these challenging times. Join us in carrying these Law Day values forward long past May 1, so we can better live out our commitments to the Rule of Law, the U.S. Constitution, and our democratic system at large. Happy Law Day of Action to our entire Alliance, and thank you for all you do to uphold these values every day!
