As we enter into 2026, the year is shaping up to be an crucial one for American democracy. On July 4, we will mark the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, and the November midterm elections may well determine the future of our republic. As AAROL prepares to meet the moment, we’re excited to share some news, upcoming events, and ways you can continue to support our work.
First, an institutional update!
With the assistance of pro bono counsel, AAROL has filed as a not-for-profit Delaware corporation. Please note that our 501(c)(3) application is still in process, but we be sending out further information soon on how to make a financial donation, for those who wish to. As AAROL enters this new chapter, we’ve also revamped our website to highlight AAROL’s mission and values, make our content and resources more accessible, and recognize Alliance Members. Please be sure to explore and share the refreshed site!
For now, AAROL’s activities remain purely grassroots and volunteer driven. Notable recent highlights include:
- AAROL’s Video Interview Series continues, with new interviews with Georgian lawyer and human rights activist Giorgi Chkheidze and Board Chair Mark Dietrich live, and further expert interviews dropping soon with David Vaughn, Ted Jonas, and more. Earlier interviews with ABA CEELI Founder Homer Moyer, former USAID Administrator Andrew Natsios, and former Serbian Judge Sonja Prostran continue to attract thousands of views to our YouTube channel.
- Alliance Members are speaking out publicly, including Board member Mary Noel Pepys, who started off 2026 with an impassioned speech at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco, among numerous other engagements. Fellow Board members Mark Dietrich and Herb Bowman also delivered a guest lecture to University of Missouri law students describing how their international careers have informed their concerns for the Rule of Law in America. AAROL also joined with several other like-minded organizations to condemn the killings of anti-ICE protesters in Minneapolis. You can read our statement, along with others issued by fellow members of the Nation of Laws Coalition, here.
- The AAROL Blog continues to publish insights from Alliance Members and supporters, most recently from ABA CEELI Founder Homer Moyer on what Abraham Lincoln might say to our divided nation on the eve of its 250th anniversary. Georgian-American lawyer Ted Jonas also recounts his beating by police forces in Tbilisi, and shares timely concerns regarding political violence in the United States. More blog posts are in the works — please reach out if you are interested in publishing a piece.
Looking ahead, AAROL has several upcoming opportunities for you to make a difference at this critical time, including:

At the end of this email, we have provided several suggestions to bring more supporters into our Alliance.
We close with a renewed appeal to join and support AAROL. If you have not already done so, please complete our Alliance Member survey to let us know how you’d like to be involved in this work and to add your name to our growing Alliance Members list. Threats to impeach and harm judges continue; the legitimacy of the 2026 midterms is already being undermined; and citizens have been killed while exercising their First Amendment rights. Now is the time to stand up for Rule of Law in America — please join us.
Together, we will make a difference in 2026!

The Rule of Law is under unprecedented pressure in America, and we need voices from across the legal community to stand up and speak out. I’ve joined the Alliance for American Rule of Law—a grassroots network of lawyers, judges, and concerned citizens using their experience building the Rule of Law abroad to advocate for it here at home. I hope you’ll check out their work and consider joining their growing network of supporters: https://aarol.org/.
