TAKE ACTION
You may be asking what you can do personally to support the Rule of Law in the United States, and to push back against threats facing it. We’ve provided some starting points below, including some ways AAROL can support you in taking your commitment from ideas to action.
1 • Raise Your Voice
Your voice can make a difference in defending the rule of law in your state and community. Consider where you can speak out to share your experience and lessons learned: your local bar association, law school, business group, religious community, town hall, or more. AAROL has resources and examples to support you in doing so.
Write or call your Congressional representation to tell them the ROL matters, encourage them to take action in line with our constitutional values, or thank them for taking a stand. Check out AAROL’s 2026 Rule of Law Voter’s Guide to engage proactively with candidates in your local or statewide elections on ROL issues.
Your voice also has power to reach others online or in print — consider drafting an op-ed for your local paper, crafting an online publication, or speaking out through short- or long-form videos. AAROL invites all Alliance Members to submit ideas for video pieces, blog posts, or written pieces for publication on AAROL outlets and more, and to visit our Action Resources for relevant guidance and tools. Visit our YouTube Channel, the AAROL Blog, and Publications from Supporters for more inspiration, and write to us at info@aarol.org with publication ideas.
2 • Raise Awareness
Get the word out about what the ROL is, why it matters, and how it’s under threat in the United States. AAROL’s international allies continually highlight how critical public education and civic engagement are in bolstering judicial independence, public trust, and government accountability. Educating your community on how attacks on the ROL affect Americans’ daily lives can demystify these complex issues, and lay the foundation for further action in support of our shared, constitutional values.
Explore AAROL’s Action Resources for further guidance and awareness raising tools, and be sure to follow us on YouTube, LinkedIn, and Instagram. AAROL will continue to produce accessible, shareable content on core issues, from expert analysis and written pieces to video clips and infographics. Subscribe to the AAROL email list to also receive recommendations on who we’re following, what we’re reading, and events we’re attending, and share us with your fellow ROL advocates!
3 • Volunteer
Lawyers, former judges, and other ROL advocates have unique skills and experience to contribute to their local networks, from pro bono legal support to public advocacy. Take a look at your skills and what’s needed in your community and offer your time to fill those needs. AAROL has mapped organizations doing complementary work across the U.S., many of which are recruiting pro bono legal support, offering advocacy opportunities, or facilitating other volunteer actions to support U.S. ROL.
As AAROL grows its activities and offerings, we are actively recruiting volunteers to help produce resources, participate in interviews, draft publications, and contribute connections and time to support our work. If you are interested in contributing, please reach out to us at info@aarol.org, and consider registering to be an Alliance Member.
4 • Connect Locally
AAROL may be made up of individual advocates, but remember — there’s strength in numbers! Many ROL challenges emerging across the U.S. manifest themselves at the state or local level, and present opportunities for local action and coordination. We encourage you to build connections in your community that can support the ROL throughout 2026 — from local elections to professional associations, to nonprofits serving your local area.
AAROL brings ROL advocates together from across the country, and can support local efforts with our resources, tools, speakers, and networks. We also welcome contributions that can help AAROL be more effective at the local level–like support for our forthcoming voting resources, connections to nationwide allies, or speaking opportunities for Alliance Members.
