The Alliance for American Rule of Law (AAROL) is a grassroots network of rule of law (ROL) advocates–lawyers, judges, practitioners, and more–who are mobilizing to protect constitutional values and the American legal system from emerging threats. AAROL builds on the lessons learned across the global fight for the ROL, leveraging that international perspective to understand and respond to U.S. challenges in a new light. Alliance Members have worked to strengthen the ROL in countries around the globe and are ready to bring those lessons home.

AAROL integrates these decades of comparative, international expertise into public awareness and network building activities aimed at the American legal community, and at concerned citizens more broadly. As AAROL grows and evolves, we plan to channel our efforts through the following types of activities:

Awareness Raising & Local Advocacy

AAROL seeks to motivate and equip ROL supporters to speak up through community forums, and to provide Alliance experts for speaking opportunities at bar associations, law schools, nonprofit organizations, and other civic gatherings. AAROL is developing a host of resources and tools to support our speakers, and social media content that is easily shareable to a wide variety of audiences.

Thought Leadership

AAROL produces video interviews, shorts, and written pieces that leverage the expertise of our international community in ways few other collectives can. As we work to protect American ROL, we seek to learn from our colleagues overseas and other Americans who have worked democracy, rights, and governance issues internationally.

Network Building & Coordination

AAROL is building its own network of Alliance Members across the U.S. and connecting those Members with colleagues and resources that can strengthen their coordination. Recognizing that we only represent one niche of effort in this wider movement, AAROL is also seeking opportunities for collaboration with other like-minded organizations and individuals.
