The mission of the Alliance for American Rule of Law (AAROL) is to leverage the expertise of those who have worked to promote the rule of law (ROL) overseas to speak out in support of the ROL in the United States.

America was founded as a nation of laws, rooted in the promises of fairness, accountability, and equality before the law. Alliance Members have witnessed firsthand what the lack of ROL means in other countries, and are alarmed by similar threats we see emerging across the United States. We are compelled to speak out on behalf of the ROL, and to mobilize action in defense of our shared American legal values, including through:   

• Producing and disseminating video presentations by international ROL experts sharing how threats to the ROL they have witnessed overseas are being echoed in the United States;
• Providing experts to speak at bar associations, schools, and other civic gatherings regarding their work overseas and their concerns about developments in the United States;
• Publishing written pieces where international ROL experts can share their experiences and concerns with readers around the world; and
• Developing tools and resources to support Alliance Members in taking action in their communities.

AAROL’s core values are to be non-partisan, inclusive, and collaborative. The ROL is not a political issue — it protects us all. AAROL’s focus is on promoting America’s constitutional and traditional legal values: the independence of the judiciary; freedom of speech; equality before the law; clarity of laws and judicial decisions; accountability for public corruption; and the right to council.  

AAROL is a purely grassroots initiative, dependent on the volunteer activities of our Supporters, and is open to working with other organizations that share our values. AAROL is a not-for-profit organization with tax exempt 501(c)(3) status pending.
